Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-colored resin is applied to a tooth and then hardened with a special light. The resin is made to match the color of the tooth, so it looks natural once it's applied. Bonding can be used to repair chips or cracks in teeth, to make teeth look longer, to change the shape of teeth, or to close spaces between teeth. It is also often used as an alternative to amalgam fillings. Bonding is usually a quick and relatively inexpensive procedure, and it can be completed in a single visit to the dentist. However, it is not as durable as other types of restorations, such as crowns, and it may need to be repaired or replaced over time.

Types of Dental Bonding

There are several types of dental bonding that may be used to repair or restore teeth. Some of the most common types include:

  1. Direct bonding: This is the most common type of bonding, in which the resin is applied directly to the tooth and then hardened with a special light. It is often used to repair chips, cracks, or other small defects in the teeth.

  2. Indirect bonding: This type of bonding involves creating a mold of the tooth and then using the mold to create a temporary filling or crown. The temporary filling or crown is then bonded to the tooth. This method is often used when a large area of the tooth needs to be restored.

  3. Composite bonding: This type of bonding involves applying a composite resin to the tooth and then hardening it with a special light. Composite bonding is often used to change the shape or color of the teeth, or to close gaps between teeth.

  4. Porcelain bonding: This type of bonding involves applying a porcelain veneer to the front of the tooth. Porcelain bonding is often used to improve the appearance of the teeth, and it is more durable than composite bonding.

  5. Adhesive bonding: This type of bonding involves using an adhesive to attach a restoration, such as a crown or bridge, to the tooth. Adhesive bonding is often used when a traditional crown or bridge is not possible due to the condition of the tooth
