Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a chronic pain condition that affects the trigeminal nerve, which is one of the major nerves in the face. The pain of TN is typically described as severe and intermittent, and it can be triggered by activities such as talking, eating, or even brushing teeth.

Cold laser therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT), is a treatment that uses low-power lasers or light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to stimulate the cells in the body and promote healing. Cold laser therapy is often used to treat pain and inflammation, and some practitioners use it as a treatment for trigeminal neuralgia.

There is limited research on the use of cold laser therapy for trigeminal neuralgia, and the available studies have yielded mixed results. Some studies have found that cold laser therapy can provide some relief from the pain of TN, while others have found no significant benefit.

The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) does not recommend the use of LLLT as a treatment for trigeminal neuralgia because there is not enough evidence to support its use.

It is important to consult with a qualified healthcare provider before beginning any treatment for trigeminal neuralgia, as the condition is often treated with medication and other therapies. If you are considering cold laser therapy, it is important to find a practitioner who is trained and experienced in this type of treatment.

It would be also important to note that patients suffering from TN should talk to their doctor to see if they are candidate for surgical options like radiofrequency thermocoagulation or Microvascular decompression as those have better evidence and outcomes as treatment for TN
