The tongue is a muscular organ located in the mouth. It is an important organ for eating and speaking, as well as for maintaining good oral hygiene. The surface of the tongue is covered with tiny bumps called papillae, which contain taste buds. There are four basic tastes - sweet, sour, salty, and bitter - and the tongue is able to detect all of these tastes.

The tongue is made up of several different muscles, which allow it to move in many different directions. It can be used to push food around the mouth, to swallow, and to produce speech sounds. The tongue is also an important part of the respiratory system, as it helps to regulate the flow of air in and out of the lungs.
